Kamel Jendoubi is a human rights activist and a former Minister of Transitional Justice and Human Rights in Tunisia. He was born on September 26, 1948, in Tunis, Tunisia. Mr. Jendoubi is a graduate of the National Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology in France. He started his career as a researcher at CNRS, the French National Center for Scientific Research, in the 1970s. Mr. Jendoubi has been actively involved in the Tunisian human rights movement since the 1970s and was one of the founding members of the Tunisian League for Human Rights in 1977. He played an instrumental role in the ouster of former President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali during the Arab Spring in 2011. He was appointed Minister of Transitional Justice and Human Rights in 2012 and held the post until 2013. Mr. Jendoubi has received many awards for his work on human rights, including the Medal of Honor of the Tunisian Order of Merit in 2011 and the Human Rights Award of the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women in 2013.
